Tracking & Prompts

Understanding mention rates

Mention rate tells you how often your brand name appears in AI engine responses.

How it works

When a prompt runs, CitedSpy analyzes the full AI response for occurrences of your brand name and any aliases you have configured. The mention rate is calculated as:

Mention Rate = (Prompts with mentions / Total prompts) x 100

What affects mention rates

  • Brand awareness - well-known brands get mentioned more often.
  • Content quality - brands with strong, authoritative content tend to appear in AI responses.
  • Prompt relevance - prompts closely related to your domain will naturally have higher mention rates.
  • Engine differences - some engines cite brands more readily than others.

A mention rate above 30% is considered strong for most industries.
