AI Answer Checker
Ask any question and see which brands ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Grok recommend in their answers. Free.
What is an AI answer checker?
An AI answer checker shows which brands, products, and sources each AI engine recommends when asked any question. Type a query buyers are using - 'best project management tool for remote teams', 'how to reduce customer churn' - and see the exact brands ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Grok name in their answers, the sources they cite, and which brands appear consistently across all engines. It maps the competitive landscape inside AI answers for any specific question, in seconds.
When a buyer asks an AI engine a question about your category, the engine names specific brands. That name is not random - it reflects everything the engine knows about who is considered a credible recommendation: training data, live web citations, comparison content, and how often authoritative sources mention the brand. An AI answer checker lets you see exactly which brands each engine recommends for any specific question, without asking each engine manually.
That visibility is strategically different from traditional search. A 2026 Ahrefs analysis of 863,000 keywords found that only about 38% of AI Overview citations come from pages ranking in Google's top 10 - meaning the brands AI engines recommend are drawn from a completely different pool than organic search results. A brand can rank page one on Google for 'best CRM for startups' and still be absent from every AI engine's answer to the same question. The AI answer checker shows you that map directly.
The competitive use case is particularly powerful: type the questions your buyers are asking and instantly see which of your competitors AI engines are handing those buyers. Knowing which brands appear on two or three engines versus one tells you which have a broad authority signal versus a narrow one - and which gaps you have the best chance of closing first. This is the raw material for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO): you cannot fix what you cannot see.

We run it across five AI engines
CitedSpy sends your exact question to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Grok live, collecting each engine's full answer and the sources it cites. We use the engines' live web-search tools where supported.
See the brands each engine recommends
The result shows which brands appeared in each engine's answer, in the order they were mentioned - a proxy for how strongly each engine recommends them. Sources cited by each engine are shown alongside.
Spot the competitive pattern
The cross-engine summary shows which brands appear consistently across all five engines versus only one or two. That concentration tells you where brand authority is strongest in AI answers and which competitive slots are genuinely open.
How to read your AI answer map
Start with the cross-engine view. A brand that appears in all five engines' answers has strong, broad authority in AI training data and live web citations - it is deeply embedded in the content these engines draw from. A brand that appears in only one or two engines has a narrower signal - possibly strong in live web content (if it appears on Perplexity, which runs live search) but absent from training data, or vice versa. That pattern tells you the nature of the gap, not just the size.
Within each engine's answer, order matters. AI engines typically lead with the brands they consider the strongest recommendations. The sources each engine cites give you a direct signal of what content types drive recommendations for this query. High citation rates for review sites, comparison pages, or specific publications tell you where to earn coverage to improve your own AI visibility.
What to remember
- An AI answer checker shows exactly which brands each AI engine recommends for any specific question - the real competitive map inside AI answers.
- Brands that appear across all five engines have stronger, broader AI authority than those appearing in only one or two.
- The order brands appear in an engine's answer is a proxy for how strongly that engine recommends them - first is worth more than fifth.
- AI recommendations and Google rankings are largely independent: a 2026 Ahrefs study found only 38% of AI Overview citations come from pages in Google's top 10.
- The sources each engine cites reveal what content types drive recommendations - comparison pages, review sites, and authoritative publications are the most common.
Our methodology
The AI answer checker sends your exact question - unchanged - to every available engine: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Grok, using their live web-search tools where supported. Each call is given up to 38 seconds to respond and recorded with its full response text and the source URLs the engine cited.
After collecting all responses, Gemini analyses them together and extracts the brand and product names each engine mentioned, in the order they appeared. This extraction step is what turns unstructured answer text into a structured competitive map. Brand order within each answer reflects the model's implicit ranking - engines typically lead with their strongest recommendation.
Results are cached for 24 hours so a repeated check on the same question is instant and free. Only engines that responded successfully are shown - a slow or rate-limited engine is recorded as not reached rather than fabricated. This is the same live engine infrastructure CitedSpy uses for paid tracking, running a single question rather than a scheduled set.
